Chilly Conditions in CorvallisOregon High School Sports - General Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Saturday, 12 December 2009 09:33 Hits: 193 A chilly morning greeted everyone in Corvallis for today's OSAA big school state championship tripleheader, but temperatures on the field are (slightly) above freezing. What was only a light mist gave way to a steady rain an hour before the start of the 4A game, which radar showed would be the weather for much of the day. Field conditions were fine for today's games, but road conditions another matter. Though improving throughout the midvalley, those heading for the games need allow some extra time.
Baker and Marist had no problems with footing or ball handling while "warming" up.
But long time fans that recall a couple of the ice bowl games from the 80's will relate to the problem at hand, as, after a week and a half of sub-freezing temperatures, the Reser concrete was cold enough that all the steps and seats not under the roof were quickly covered with ice, even though air temps were above freezing.
Most on the far side had to be withdrawn from the OSU student section, but there is ample seating under cover on both sides. And field access from the press box was unavailable.

Lincoln High School boys' basketball coach David Adelman received his sentence today in a Multnomah County court. Adelman, who was ticketed for driving under the influence of intoxicants in February, will serve five days in jail, and remain on probation for 36 months.
Adelman's attorneys had alleged that Portland police illegally stopped him after receiving a tip that he was driving drunk early on Feb. 21. However, the judge refused to dismiss breath test results in Adelman's trial, where he was subsequently found guilty on Dec. 1st.
Adelman, the son of Houston Rockets and former Portland Trail Blazers coach Rick Adelman, had previously been arested once for drunk driving.

Despite a strong effort by the Evergreen Plainsmen out of Vancouver, WA, and significantly higher scores by their three closest competitors from last years’ OSU event, the Skyhawks upped their score as well. As a result, Southridge claimed the Open division preliminary round, and defended their OSU title, sweeping the support awards, and claiming the year’s NWAPA season championship as well.

North Marion Leading Pink-Out EffortOregon High School Sports - General Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Monday, 12 October 2009 19:26 Hits: 242 Huskies Hope For Statewide Support For Cause
Inspired by the example the NFL provided the past two weekends, North Marion High School, and Senior WR/DB, Kelly Christensen, are heading up a campaign to get the entire North Marion high school student body, and also players, coaches, and staff to participate in a "Pink Out" to show North Marion's support for the research and cure of Breast Cancer. The event is planned for Friday evening, October 16th. when the Huskies host the Elmira Falcons on Homecoming night. North Marion has invited the Falcons to join in the "Pink Out" as well, and further asked everyone accross the state, and all teams playing this week, to join in making a statement that we are aware and will win this battle, by the very act of wearing pink in some form at this week's games.
Breast Cancer has taken many loved ones from us all and has left many strong survivors. Christensen and the Huskies ask only that everyone take the evening together, as a state and nation, to celebrate the fight and commitment to live strong in the Race For The Cure, by the simple act of the visible demonstration of awareness and support that pink shows.
Christensen said the event holds a special place in his heart, as his grandmother was afflicted with the disease. “I’m so thankful that my grandma is still here with me, but I know that there are a lot of people around the world that have lost their loved ones to breast cancer,” said Christensen.
Sherwood Supports The Cause
Sherwood is also supporting the cause, with a "Think Pink" theme to this week's contest with Hillsboro.
Cipole Examines Masoli's Knee and Other PAC-10 OdditiesOregon High School Sports - General Written by Cipole Monday, 12 October 2009 11:42 Hits: 354 If you're a State of Oregon football fan, supporting anything with an "O" then you hit for a trifecta over the weekend with Beavs, Ducks and even the Vikings notching wins. Then if you stayed up late and watched Washington and Arizona up in Seattle, you're loyalties were tested. Me? I loathe all 'things Stoops' so I threw my loyalty where is had seldom went for the past several decades. I ventured over to "The Darkside." I cheered on Husky QB (and all-around good guy) Jake Locker. In a game where Wildcat coach Mike Stoops might as well have pitched a tent out on the "W" at midfield given the amount of time he left the sideline to rant and rave, it was the perfect nightcap. Washington came down from 33-21 in the final four minutes with a fluke interception return for a touchdown and then a textbook Locker-led drive to seal the win. As Al McGuire once said, "it is better to be lucky than good' and Arizona was good but Washington was lucky. After cheering Dawg wins against USC and Arizona and getting depressed about Notre Dame pulling off the win in South Bend, I am offically done rooting for Washington for the rest of the year. Sherwood's Paulson Wins US Women's MarathonOregon High School Sports - General Written by Don Francis Tuesday, 06 October 2009 10:11 Hits: 253 While many racing savants figured four time Olympian Colleen De Reuck would run away with the USA Womens Marathon in Minneapolis on Sunday, the 45 year old was no match down the stretch as 20 year old Ilsa Paulson, ran her down in the final few miles and still looked so fresh with the U.S flag draped around her, the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon race announcers wondered if she'd be able run the same time heading back to the starting line in Minneapolis. Oregons two time high school cross country champion for Sherwood in 2005 and 2006, Paulson becomes the second youngest woman runner ever to win a major marathon. Lincoln Lands In Controversy (Again)Oregon High School Sports - General Written by Andy Wooldridge (CCCougarfan) Wednesday, 16 September 2009 07:25 Hits: 500 Carlson, One Assistant, Reaches Agreement With DA
Portland police cited three Lincoln High School football coaches, on charges of disorderly conduct, for events following the Ultimate Fighting Championship event August 29 at the Rose Garden Arena. They are scheduled to appear in community court next week, and have also received a 30 day TriMet exclusion.
Lincoln High School head football coach Chad V. Carlson, 38, and assistant coaches Kacy S. Fairfax, 24, and Kyle D. Fairfax, 25, who are brothers, attended the event on what Carlson described as "Kind of a coaching retreat. We were done with daily doubles and we were going out. Nobody wanted to drive, so we took the MAX."
Portland police allege the coaches were intoxicated, uncooperative, and verbally interfered with their investigation of a complaint by an unnamed woman that a 23 year old man had pinched her. The man, also not identified, was reportedly a former high school football player whom the coaches had run into on the MAX platform.
