Health has been a story this season for both teams. La Grande (17-9) was without senior point guard Kevin Attila early in the season, including the tournament in Stayton. The Tigers opened the season 0-6, and 2-8, but have won eight in a row, and are 15-1 since Jan. 8. The Tigers ran thru the Greater Oregon League undefeated.

(Portland) – The game plan was obvious for Sunset. Get the ball inside to its big man, 6’9 sophomore Landen Lucas, as McKay’s tallest player is 6’4. McKay, intent on stopping the inside game of Sunset, did a great job of not allowing Sunset to get Lucas going early, but couldn't stop the other Apollos. Lucas was a big factor on the defensive end as Sunset jumped to an early lead and then stayed in front by controlling the rebounding and playing a great 2-3 zone defense in the second half, defeating McKay, 60-49, in the 4th place game of the morning session at the Rose Garden. Lucas finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. His final tournament numbers in three games are pretty impressive; he made 16 of 22 field goal attempts, while snagging tournament-high’s of 44 rebounds and 11 blocked shots. The Phoenix Pirates, with only one senior, Skyler Reagan, to replace, might have extended their stay in Corvallis longer than expected, but are a good bet to make another extended stay in the near future, so the contest was a great way to set the table.
Jersey change, for those visualizing the box score, Marist's Corey Owen is wearing #13, not #22 as in the porgram.
Reagan and Marist's Mitchell Wilson exchanged pleasantries, and the games' first baskets.
